The rumors were running rampant on twitter and on the internet about the return of Clint Dempsey to the MLS. If you are on twitter and are a huge follower of soccer, then you had to have been entertained with the reaction from everyone.
It has now been confirmed, as the Seattle Sounders have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur of the EPL, to bring Clint Dempsey back to the States!
Dempsey was introduced to the Sounders faithful on Saturday night and the place was just electric.
Bringing Dempsey to the MLS is the biggest news since the LA Galaxy brought in David Beckham.
This is a huge get for the MLS for the following reasons:
- Dempsey is only 30 - he's in the prime of his career - he's one of the greatest US players in history (captain of the USMNT) - he's a big name player that most non-soccer fans have heard of - he will help the MLS garner some interest from other soccer fans who dont normally watch the MLS
With Dempsey coming here in the prime of his career and I'd say a successful career in England, is this the sign of things to come for the MLS? Are they on the verge of bringing in some more "in-prime" players? We shall see but one thing is certain, I am going to enjoy the ride!
