I think my following statement is something we can agree on.
The window of opportunity is rapidly closing for this Reds team.
This franchise has now handcuffed themselves with some very expensive contracts.
With Votto, BP and Bruce signed for a crap ton of money, would you be ok with the Reds unloading one of the three to free up some payroll to help this club out down the road?

I'd be okay with letting Phillips go. I think you want to keep Bruce because he is still pretty young, has a cannon, and is a power bat this team needs.

I totally agree with that. By letting BP go, that is approx $15 million that will be freed up for the Reds to approach free agents. I think it would be a great business decision for the Reds. That would be one contract the Reds would not be crippled by.

If we let go of Phillips though I see the Reds going after Choo. In which case, if we sign Choo... We are super crippled. Given how long his contract will probably be for, Choo may not be producing as much at the back end.

If the Reds get 75 wins next year I'll be surprised. Game in third in the division this year, no Choo, no Arroyo, no Phillips (not that I care if he's gone or not), and I don't see us bringing in anyone notable. Going to be a long season for the Reds. Oh well, Who Dey

The Reds are in serious trouble with some of these contracts. Honestly, I am all for getting rid of Votto (I love Votto though) to help get this team out from under this tied up money. They are going to struggle in the upcoming seasons if they cant get rid of these bad contracts...ask the Cubs

You can get rid of all the contracts you want but is there any one the Reds can afford that will have similar production? No. So, we dump all these contracts we are damned (70-75 wins)... we don't dump them we are damned (80-85 wins). The time we should have gotten rid of Votto was when we had Yonder. I was for moving Votto then and we would have gotten some serious value out of him. Now, we made him the face of the franchise and he isn't going any where any time soon.

I think it is safe to say, right now, this Reds team is in trouble. They have made minimal moves to keep pace with the rest of the teams in the division. The rest of the division has gotten better while the Reds, a 3rd place team last season, stayed put. I don't see this team doing anything next season except for finishing towards the bottom of the division and watching the playoffs. Jocketty has to do something to make this team better. Plain and simple.

Sadly, they have no money to make any serious moves. I think we are just going to have to deal with mediocrity for a few years again.

Unless the team is able to trade some bigger pieces to bring in more impact players...I am certainly open to dealing Homer because I don't see the Reds resigning him. We have to come to the realization that we are another Tampa Bay Rays franchise. I don't think we are anything more than that.

We are a bit more than the Rays considering our payroll was nearly double theirs last year and I think we have quite a few more fans that show up. I think this is the last year of the "ALL IN!" mentality they incorporated a couple years ago because it is going to kill us this year. Honestly, I think the Reds are willing to let their bigger contracts peter out instead of getting value out of them while they can.
