It is no secret the Reds fell flat on their face this season.
With Walt getting a 2 year extention, the question is, how confident are you in Walt and the Reds management in making this team better for 2015?
This team went for it a couple of years ago when they dumped big money in Phillips, Votto and Bailey.
Right from the get go, I said it was a bad move.
The Reds are a small market team trying to act like a big market team.
That will never work.
What are your thoughts?

Have to get a bat. Someway somehow. If that means getting rid of Latos or Cueto, then that's what has to be done. Personally I'd rather keep Cueto.
And I would loooove to dump Votto on someone via a trade, but there isnt a team in this league that would take that contract. As you mentioned, big money on three players who are not producing anywhere close to what they should be (And I'm a huge Homer fan). Interesting to see what happens. Could also see Bruce getting shipped out, although not the most opportune time to do so given his horrible year

Plain and simple, the Reds MUST dump payroll. This organization will not be able to do anything until they shed some of the big contracts off the books. The biggest problem is, I dont think they will be able to get rid of the ones they need to.
I believe that Bailey, BP, Votto will have to go. Unfortunately, I think the only one that will be able to go is Bailey.
This is a small market franchise. We have to act like it.
The St. Louis Cardinals got rid of Walt because he didn't match what their vision was. It has obviously worked out. They were not afraid to part ways with Pujols.
This team must build up their farm system with serious prospects.
Otherwise, we will have to start enjoying finishing in last place in the division.

This is the last year the Reds compete for awhile. 700 had Walt on the other day and my take on that conversation is, he ain't dumping payroll. They may pickup some bullpen help and another below average utility player but I don't foresee anything big happening this offseason. If the Reds are well out of it by the deadline, they may do something but I wouldn't get my hopes up this winter.

I've seen some rumors the Mets may be interested in Jay Bruce. I say... "Jay pack your bags I am driving you to Queens!"

From C. Trent Rosecrans with the Cincinnati Enquirer: Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick and infielders Jack Hannahan and Ramon Santiago officially became free agents on Thursday, following the conclusion of the World Series. The team declined options on Ludwick and Hannahan with buyouts of $4.5 million and $2 million, respectively. Here's the list of all 121 free agents from the Major League Baseball Players Association, who can sign with any club starting at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday. There are an additional 32 players who may become eligible for free agency pending option decisions:

The Reds should take a run at me! The guys they can afford will be able to contribute about as much as I can.

There are a number of names out there that could help this club?
Which ones intrigue you?

If the Reds want to win now then Aoki. He gets on base and that is something this team doesn't like to do. With him you don't have to give up anything and he shouldn't be too expensive. Also, he will fill in nicely until Winker is ready for the bigs. Reds will need to address the bullpen... I'd say pickup Luke Hochevar and Burke Badenhop. Burke will probably be too expensive but I think Luke can be had on the cheap because he is coming off Tommy John. Not much else can be done unless the Reds opened up their wallets more or got creative with their centerpieces. Personally, I'd prefer getting creative so we can brace for the future but that isn't going to happen.

I don't think Bruce would bring back enough to justify trading him...

So, you would say "no" to a sack of BBQ flavored sunflower seeds?

Yes edubbs I would say no to something that stupid... On another note, the Reds did trade Chris Heisey to the Dodgers for Matt Magill. Hopefully Magill can get it together as he was once a solid prospect. Regardless, the Reds can stockpile the arms so they can hopefully get rid of Bailey (not happening) and Cueto. Now it looks like it will any one or two of Cueto, Latos or Leake that will be dealt.

You gotta keep Leake. He is a consistent inning eater and is a yang to the ying of power pitchers. Not to mention he should be cheaper. Of Latos and Cueto I'd prefer to keep Latos. He has moxy and doesn't torque the holy hell out of his body on his rotation. However, I don't think the Reds can afford either Cueto or Latos. So, I'd look to trade them for nearly major league ready prospects.
